Connection with MC and Hip

Post by Barbara5603 »

Forgot to mention this; I was just reading another post and it jogged my memory.

When I first met with my surgeon, we talked about my medical history and the surgeon said he believes most degenerative joint disorders, particularly in people with A/I issues all stem from - you guessed it: MC. In fact both he and my rheumy believe that the R/A and the hip problem (aside from the previous ski injury) both stem from MC. Even though the MC was the last dx'd A/I disorder apparently it remains dormant in most of us that are pre-disposed and manifests itself in other forms. In my case, diabetes, thyroid, RA, etc. It has to do with the pre disposition of tissue breakdown which begins the domino effect.

I understood in principle what he was saying, but not enough to put it into words in this forum. Since I have been away for a while, I don't know how much this has been discussed on the board, but I would be curious about what you all have heard or think. Anyway, just wanted to throw it out for discussion.

Barbara,

Thanks for posting that information. We've discussed all sorts of AI issues that seem to be linked with MC, but I don't believe that we've ever talked about it causing the degeneration of hip joints.

I find this very interesting, because since about the middle of last December, I've had a chronic hip problem that doesn't seem to want to go away. Hmmmmmm.

I believe that gluten has been linked to RA. And since MC has associations there as well then perhaps that is the link.

Right. We've known about the RA link all along, and I've had significant RA problems in the past, (mostly before going GF), but currently, I'm not detecting any RA inflammation.
