Paging Alice!
Hi Alice!
What was the concert/piece you played that you mentioned in your post to Luce? Was it that annual Bach marathon?
I'm sure I've mentioned this in the past, but when I was a kid my family and piano teacher thought I would make a good concert pianist. I played in some national competitions and placed well. However, that was before I discovered sports (hockey, lacrosse, basketball) and BOYS! LOL! I never would have had the discipline to practice hours a day.......sigh. But someday I would love to get back to the piano (Peabody is practically in my back yard so lessons would be convenient). I have always had a dream to play a sonata with the symphony.
Love,
Polly

Polly,
I didn't know you played! I would love to get payed to play but I realized as I started looking at music programs for college that I didn't have the discipline to practice that number of hours a day. Plus I am very mechanical...the musicality has been a struggle, although as I've gotten older, that has developed somewhat.
I really want a piano for my house. Pricey item though.

Hi all,
The concert was called "Pipe Dreams: Music for Organ and Others, and was part of our concert series at the church where I'm organist. I produced and "starred" in it, and it was the most fun I've had in a performance in a long time!
Most of the players where church members - flute, piano, timpani, glockenspiel, voice. I hired the harpist from the CSO (Cincinnati Symphony) which cost a bundle and initially my boss wasn't too happy with that, but when the concert turned out to be such a great success and we brought in $700 he was ok with it. We also hired a trumpet player.
It was a mix of "classical" with a couple pops thrown in: the vocal duet from Phantom of the Opera, and Stars and Stripes Forever as an organ duet.
Great fun!
Gotta run - a student is here.
Love,
Alice

Polly and Barb,
I hated performing when I was young, as I was very timid and shy. Still am,
but compensate just enough to get through. But still not a great performer, just better than I used to be.
I never could have done competitions, Polly. I'm sure you played better than I! I went to the pipe organ because my hands were too small for piano (I felt) and the organ just felt more comfortable to me. Barbs, you might have done fine with a real piano - it makes a big difference. But, you have many other talents - your wonderful writing style is the one we see here on the board!

Yup a real piano @ home would have been the way to go----
I laughed so when I read that---
I did forget to say that --once a week I went to this place-called The Madonna House,(which offered a variety of things--piano--drama--flute-etc.) but when they said go home and pratice I went *oh oh--I have a problem*--
I thought mimeing could be a break thru for me---
Nothing like the *real thing* I gather--
