A feel good for you all...
My cat Buster was just outside and growling it up with a neighbour cat. That caused Ronny (my hubby) to go out and check the commotion. He called me outside to take a look at the cat Buster was going to scrap with - a cat that looked exactly like Buster only it was a manx! Anyway, while we're standing there I hear this strange noise in the tall cane beside our place. Then I hear it again...kind of sound like flapping. It's quite dark out, but I finally make out the shape of a little bird that is just sitting on the cane flapping. Then it dawns on me it may have impaled itself, or something, because it flaps widly for a few seconds, but doesn't move. The poor little thing was at max 3 inches long from beak to tail with gorgeous black, tan, and white markings, a little finch of some kind I think. Ronny gets out a pair of shears and very carefully and gently clips away the cane around the poor little guy. He cuts off the cane the bird is attached to and here the cane has split and the little tyke has gotten one of his feet trapped in the split. There's a little blood, but not too much. We very carefully lower the cane and bird to the ground and gently open the spilt so it can get it's foot out. It's breathing heavily and doesn't seem to want to move. We are keeping our eyes peeled for the cats all the while. The little bird finally moves, and edges closer to Ronny as if to says THANKS (in bird language, of course). We're not too sure what to do with the poor little thing, so I get a pair of gloves on and put him in a hanging basket. Ronny goes in and gets some bird food and just as we put the seed in with the beautiful little creature it gives a large peep and flies away. The end.
Awe! Not often we get to help one of the wild creatures!

Thanks for that feel good story Pegster, love cat and bird stories.
I agree Momster, your Peg and Ronnie are awesome, but then it's in the genes so enjoy the credit you deserve.
BTW, hope your doing great.
Love,
Joanna

I hope the bird commotion distracted the cats so poor Buster (or poor the other cat depending on who was the instigator) didn't get himself beat up!
Animals know when they are being helped, and do show their appreciation. Was he more worried about being trapped or being so close to a cat fight?

Love it!!! Love it!!! Love it!!!!
Thanks so much for helping the poor little thing out. If other birds have as good a memory as our BeeBee, I'll bet it won't go near that spot again...perhaps not even near cane again.
