Prescriptions programs by mail aren't always cheaper!

Post by grannyh »

For years we have used the mail in program with our prescription part of our health insurance to save money. The way the program began you got three months of presc. for the price of two so it was a good deal.

When my most recent prescription came in with the bill I almost dropped my teeth (if I had any to spare..LOL).

I had been getting Norvasc at the grocery store pharmacy in different strengths trying to figure out which worked best. It was less than 13 bucks a month. When I settled on the right strength I aske the doctor for a prescription for mail in.

Imagine my surprise to find that the program now has a MINIMUM charge! Turns out I was paying OVER DOUBLE the price by using mail in!

I mentioned it to my neighbor and she said the same thing happened with their mail in program the previous year. Now I have to check the price of everything at the local pharmacy ...then call the mail in provider and compare prices before I have anything filled. Then there is the low generic price that Walmart offers that has to be checked against the grocery store pharmacy!

Saving money on drugs is NOT easy anymore, that is for sure!!
