Joanna - THE FINISH IS NEAR

Post by MaggieRedwings »

Hi Joanna,

Well it will end tonight and Lance is making #13 look really great. I have been checking in during the day which I never do and he is looking super and Martin in #3 position I think will take over for second. Here's hoping.

Wonder who will actually get the Red Lantern?

See you tomorrow and let me know the winner tonight if you are up.

Love, Maggie

Hi Trail Buddy,

This has been such an incredible race. Sorry to have been remiss the last couple days--I'm so busy packing for a trip tomorrow.

Lance won it and I was able to watch it in real time tv, it was so neat. Alot of emotions. It was not dark yet either--very cool alaskan dude.

I also was able to watch Paul come into Nome second via local tv just a little while ago. The engergy is amazing.

This years race will go down in history for a couple of reasons. Let's wait to hear what the media has to say.

Love,
Joanna

Morning Joanna,

CONGRATULATIONS LANCE!! Popular name for 1st place finishers in 2 very differnt kinds of races that take unbelievable endurance and skill.

Looks like Martin will finish in first. From the official site this a.m. there were no articles on the #1 finisher just on #2. Very disappointing. I am not paying for video stream so I probably will never get to see the finish.

I am so proud of all the mushers and to think that the Red Lantern - for those who do not know, it goes to last place finisher - will be a woman psychiatrist is she does not pick it up.

Also happy to hear that Susan's daughter will hopefully get to finish under the burled arch and is actually wearing Susan's suit. For those that don't know Susan Butcher really dominated the race in the 80s and lost her life to leukemia this past August. Her daughter is only 11 years old and has mushed since she was 4.

What a wonderful topsy-turvy race this year.

So much fun having followed it with you.

Love, Maggie
