Bad, bad day!
OK, I need to whine. I went to work and was in my office/classroom and the head of technology was giving a tour. She marched right in and told the other person that my room was going to be the new Spanish Room. I mentioned to her that I was NOT GONE YET and it was very hurtful for her to come into my space and talk about it. Actually, a maintenance man said it first last week. I lost it.....I starting crying so hard I couldn't stop. I went to talk to the Assist Head of School and told him what happened....he told me what he knew and was very understanding...then I went tot talk to my friend the school nurse....I told her I was going home...I called the admin assist and left a message and then came home and e-mailed my boss and the head of the school. I pretty much laid it on the line about not getting much consideration after 23 years. She wrote back and is posting my job this week...she said she hasn't done anything about replacing me yet out of consideration for me. She wants to meet.
I came home and took a Xanax...slept, cried....called my therapist...he called me around 9PM....very nice guy. I am an emotional wreck...I did get a letter from a school in Seattle...they reported that they would review my resume....etc. I am totally drained,...I don't ever want to go back! Thanks for listening....JJ

Thanks all...I did get an e-mail back from my boss who agreed that we need to talk. She has not hired anyone to replace me yet...out of consideration for me she said, but needs to do so soon. So...we will talk. My therapist called last night at 9PM...he couldn't fit me in last evening, so he called instead...what a nice guy...he gave me a little phone pep talk. I am feeling better today....I guess I will have to live with these mini melt downs until this is over....maybe start taking Xanax every day before work...I hate to do that, but can'y cry all the time. This month is the worst as people start making plans for next year...sigh.
As always, I love you guys for letting me vent....JJ

OK....the news is,...there isn't even a 40% job for me...they are hiring various contract people to teach the classes. So...does that mean I am eligible for unemployment? My job has gone away.
I also ran into a friend from church and his wife is a corporate attorney...he said to call her tonight.,..I may be entitled to a severance package! I am meeting with my supervisor tomorrow so need to get my act together tonight...also have a friend who is an HR Director and another friend works for WA State Unemploy. Service....at least I have some resources...do any of my Potty friends know about these things? TTFN....JJ

Jill,
I hope the meeting went smoothly.
I think you should be eligible for unemployment compensation in Washington State. You can find out for sure by calling this number:
1-800-318-6022
You can apply for benefits online, at:
http://www.wa.gov/esd/ui/icapp/start.htm
I hope things start going your way.

Hi JJ,
How are things going today? I've been only reading post about once a week, or I would have written you sooner.
How inconsiderate some of the people you're working with are. I don't have any advice for you: but I do relate to what you're saying. When I quit, I did so because I knew I'd be leaving in Jan, and I thought that if I couldn't commit to a full year's contract, I shouldn't sign, and so lost a half a year's work. ( I substituted for 6 months before we moved to AZ.) When I told friends who taught at city schools, they asked why I didn't job share, or sign the contract and give notice halfway through the year.. IIt wouldn't have occurred to me to have those options, like it does to most teachers. These are things that you would think my administration might have suggested to me, even. My Catholic school administrators took a paternal approach to the teachers, as opposed to public school administrators, who treated teacher more as equals and co-workers.
I hope things have gotten better - send me a note?
Love, Marsha

Hi...Ummmm...no news on my end. I wrote to my head hunting outfit and asked them if I can expect more referrals. Sigh. I applied for a job at a museum in Seattle, but haven't heard a word. My HR friend at World Vision gave me the name of a Career Counselor, so guess I need to pursue that. I check Craig's list too. I have begun negotiatons for my exit plan...One issue was that the $ from my accumulated sick days was going to be paid to me at 60%. I said whoa...Before this year, I was full time! So, that may become part of my severence pkg. Will be interesting to see how this plays out...good to hear from you Marsha. TTFN....JJ
