Hi All!!!
This is Jean, formerly jrhodo. I guess I missed a lot!
I started my new job in April, gardener at three golf courses. I finally found the job of my dreams! However, it kicked my butt for quite a few weeks. I worked, I came home and fed the birds (19), and then fall asleep. I didn't even check email for a few weeks, let alone get on any boards. I bet I'm glad I missed everything.
I was worried that I wouldn't be able to handle this job because of the MC. Once I got into shape, I found that I'm doing OK. I've planted 6000 annuals since mid-May. I've also moved 300-400 perennials, rebuilt a brick retaining wall, etc.
Polly and Karen, I really should have listened to you and exercised in the winter when I was thinking about it! LOL Please kick my butt next winter if I get lazy.
My birds are great. I have raised 9 babies (greencheek conures). My African Grey, Zoey, is great and talking more each day. She now lives in the living room where she picks up phases from us. When the dog gets close to the door, she says "want to go out?" When I go into the kitchen she imitates the microwave and coffee pot.
Kids are good. My youngest moved to Arizona to live with her sister, but that only lasted a month. Shannon couldn't stand to be that far away from me. She's home now and I'm glad to have her.
I've been doing great on the diet. My last safe restaurant was eliminated a few weeks ago, darn. I guess I'm cooking every night now...
Anyway, great to see all of you again. I look forward to hearing from you.
Love, Jean

JEAN!
It's great to have you back home again. NINETEEN birds! WOW.
I'm so happy to hear how well your new job is going. I hope THIS boss appreciates you. And I hope your old bosses are kicking themselves.
We'll need your help, of course, to develop an article for the diet room on how to approach multiple sensitivities, since you are the expert. You have written the book, so to speak, both literally and figuratively. LOL! So, once you have a little free time, we're gonna pick your brain.
I want to hear all about your birds, and I will tell you all about my turtle. (Thanks, Wayne - he's adorable. Can't believe how quickly you found him).
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.

I was so glad to hear from you. I've thought of you often and missed you. I've been wondering how your classes are going.
I bet I have the article already written! Let me know what you need. I'm not working weekends anymore, so I should have time.
My bosses think I know what I'm doing, so they completely leave me alone! My old ones replaced me with four people...
In April, I was allowed to go through the woods and 'rescue' wildflowers before they tore them down for houses and a hotel. Can't beat a job like that!!!
My birds are great. The only problem is selling them, I can't bare to part with them! I have convinced myself why I need to keep them all. Luckily I have made a good friend who raises birds. She's been my mentor. She says selling them gets easier (this from a woman with 130 birds)! I've sold two, one to her.
So glad to be here, Love, Jean

Hi Jean,
It is SO good to see you again - you've been gone for what seems like forever; seemed like you just rolled off with the Earth while it was turning - maybe you've come to a full circle now? Can you just hold on and stay with us this time!!?
Well, Jean since Polly didn't mention exercising I guess it's up to me to kick your butt; and I am happy doing it
Be sure to bend your knees and squat while planting all those annuals and moving the perrenials - that should keep your buttocks and thighs in great shape, bikini ready LOL!!
I haven't heard you sound this happy before - congrats with the job and your good control via the diet - thumbs up for the latter!!
Love,
Karen

Hi Jean:
So good to see you here.
Gosh!! You have been busy. Gardening is no easy job - I know from experience.
I only have a little patio container garden now and probably just as well because I know I would overdo. As it is, John has to keep watching me that I don't crowd us out so we can't sit out there.
I have three hanging planters (both Pegster and I plant our own), some planters hanging off the railing, and the rest are in boxes and pots. A friend gave me a hydrangia this year and I know I'll probably have to plant that in the ground by next year because they grow pretty big. I also have a miniature butterfly bush - just got it last year and it only had a couple of sprigs of flowers this year. Do you think I should plant it in the ground too? Maybe it needs more room for root growth. Would appreciate your advice.
Other than that, I've planted tomatoes, bell peppers, zucchini and one sunflower. They're doing really well.
I'd just love to see your birds. They are a lot of work too. I've had parakeets and African Love birds in the past, but nothing bigger than that. I don't think my husband's temperament would suit a larger bird. He likes to be the noisiest one in the house (Peg can attest to that - tee-hee).
Well, I'm off to put my feet up and work on my tablecloth.
Again, so nice you're here.
Love - Momster

Do something nice for you today
Wow!
Welcome back, Jean!
I was sooo hoping that you'd find time to post once again. Yeah!
Good to hear how well you're doing.
By the way, we have a bit of a tree problem here -- three of em got whacked off by a tornado -- two oaks, and one of our pines.
I think they'll eventually begin to regain their shape, but for the time being, they look pretty funny.
Anyway, I do hope none of them succumb to any illness. Would hate to lose em. They are old trees, and tall, well, WERE tall. Ha!
We've had the folks up in the trees removing all the twisted branches that got stuck in what wasn't blown down, but they left one huge limb that looks like shreaded wheat (opps, sorry) and you can see straight through that limb, if you can imagine that.
What I think is that the tornado twisted it around til it shattered inside. Bark on the outside there looks like someone took a knife and made longitudinal slits all the way around that big limb.
Amazingly, there's quite a bit of green folage growing out from there. You'd think one so damaged would've fallen off or died. You should've seen the big limbs that DID fall, and one not too far from where I was sitting, listening to the weather report on tv. Another blocked the driveway completely, and I couldn't budge either, of course. The city had moved a neighbor's big limb that was blocking the entire street by the next morning as well as another one at the other end of the street.
Neighbor's big limbs came over or on top of our fence, so had to get our crews to remove the part on our side.
I hired three separate groups of people for the clean-up before it was over. What a mess! Just got the "up-in-the tree" part done this past Wed. -- had quite a wait on our regular tree-trimmers. Tornado happened right about 10:50 PM the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, so it took a while. I think the trees will look less shocky by next spring. Glad I'd gotten them into such good shape BEFORE this happened. Had just had the regular pruning of the oaks done a few months before -- poor trees!
By the way, I noticed that a big pear tree next door fared quite well. Would that be because they bend quite a bit without breaking or would that have been a fluke?
Glad to have you back, Jean! I'm having to write a little less myself these days, but try to keep in touch as often as possible.
Yours, Luce

Hi Jean,
Since no one knows more about living with multiple intolerances than you, it's really a pleasure to be reading your posts again. We missed you more than you can imagine.
It's great to have you back with us.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Jean, and fellow gardener.
Three golf courses to do flowers for? You must be up to your ears but its sure fun planting when someone is paying for the flowers and YOUR time.
Enjoy every minute of planting..I'm sure your sleeping good at night.
Welcome. It's good to see you.
Love,
Joanna

Welcome Home Jean!!!!
Have missed you and your gardening and bird stories. I also have been doing a great bit of planting and today alone, we will be putting in about 1,000 annuals and 300 shrubs to get the CEO's home ready for a gardening tour.
So happy to see bird lady back.

Jean!!! I am so glad to have our resident horticulturist back again.
Yes, your message about the things you have been doing make me tired, too. I am very glad that you are feeling well enough to do all that, though.
My white bleeding heart didn't bloom very well this year. I am thinking of moving her. Any suggestions and to care and feeding? Moisture? That sort of thing.
Lot of love,
Sally
