A Compound In Broccoli, Known As DIM, . . .

Post by tex »

can not only strengthen the immune system, but it can actually help to stop the growth of certain types of cancer cells.

I've always been a broccoli fan, (it was one of only a handful of veggies I could eat when my gut was healing), and broccoli is lookin' better and better, as research reveals additional benefits to our health.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks Tex for the article!
I could eat steamed broccoli every day.
I use it in alot of things that I make.
I've had this craving for coleslaw, and can tolerate it, but not days in a row...

Well, I don't take the idea of good nutrition as a way to fend-off cancer *too* seriously. There are tons of women who eat uber-healthy, and get breast cancer. If it was as simplistic as diet, my friends who eat crap ( I consider my diet quite healthy since my MC diagnosis 7 years ago - little to no processed food, lots of fruit and veggies...) would have gotten breast cancer, not me!

I eat a lot of broccoli, and will continue, but not for cancer-preventive reasons...If just diet were enough, we would see a "survival of the fittest" thing going on, where those who eat crap would get diseases, and healthy eaters would remain healthy...cancer doesn't play by those rules...

Hi Tex,

Hmmmmmmm. I see that dirty word, "cytokine", again. Maybe immune-stimulating foods are NOT so good for us MCers (who have a hyperimmune system to begin with). Gets complicated, doesn't it?

That said, I do eats lots of broccoli, as well as cabbage and kale (my personal favorite).

Love,

Polly
