No News on the Rocks

Post by MaggieRedwings »

Morning All,

Well to say the least yesterday was interesting with the tests. Took 2 hours but they are done with the exception of the one where you sit up real fast and they want to repeat that one. Because I had a dizzy spell that a.m. they thought it may not have worked - Go figure!!

The lights and electrode tests were fine and they feel that according to the light tests - very early guess she said - that the crystals "rocks" in my ears are not the problem for the vertigo. No one seemed to mention to me the test where they blow hot and cold air into your ears while in the dark and with the headglasses with the black-out shade on. I absolutely FREAKED OUT. For very personal reasons I cannot have something over my face and feel like I am being smothered. I got hysterical but told them I would do my best to get through the test. Instead of it taking about 1/2 hr it took over 1 hour. Frank heard me freak and had no idea what was going on. I am also claustrophobic and that did not add to the mix. I got through it after many tissues for crying so much and having to recalibrate the picture camera glasses but they had to repeat the hot air in the left ear twice since the reading was so "weird" in the techs words. Also, there is a major difference in the shape of the ear canal between the left and right ear with the left being small and very "circular."

Hopefully, today I will get the results but she did indicate that if there was not a diagnosis from these tests I might have to see a neurologist. I am now more upset than before I went since I just felt then it was positional vertigo and rocks in the ears.

Will keep you posted.

Love, A very freaked-out Maggie

Well, I can understand why you are more upset now than before. I believe I would be also.

I'm rather hoping they find out that the the tests were inaccurate.

Hi Maggie,

Thanks for sharing your initial results with us. I'm worried about you and hope it's something very easily treatable! The tests sound pretty scary to me too, as I'm claustrophobic also and sensitive in the ears.

Thinking of you

Alice

Wow! That series of tests sounds like something that would fit right in with the "interrogation procedures" that the CIA has been using for questioning terrorists, lately. Sorry you had to go through that, especially if it turns out to be totally unproductive.

It sort of makes you wonder how they dream up tests like that. After a test of that sort, any patient who was only pretending, would certainly be ready to "confess", I'll bet.

That's exactly what I though of, Tex, the CIA interrogation methods. Aaack. They should have prepared you for the black-out one--maybe you could have tolerated it if you'd known what to expect. You would think they would realize that a lot of people have claustrophobia issues. Me too, for that matter. Bummer of a day, and to top it off no results. Another aaack!

Well, Maggie, I had similar tests in 2000. And all was normal, but I do have outta whack crystals in my ears from time to time. I think the best way to see if that is the case is for them to do the positional thing to see if it gets better.

Good luck. Definately not tests to go through if you are claustrophobic! Did you have to do the one in the tent where stripes and other patterns rotate around you on the walls? That made me nauseous.

Good grief! This is getting worse and worse. Those guys have to be ex-CIA agents.

After reading all this, if I develop a problem with vertigo, I think I'll just keep my mouth shut, and hope that my doctor doesn't find out about it, 'cause he would probably insist that I have the tests done. LOL.

Man, with these tests, if you didn't have anything wrong when you went in, you sure would by the time you left!!!!

Hope all comes out ok Maggie!

Hi Maggie!
Wanted to jump in here and post to maybe help eleviate some of your stress.
From going thru Jack's experience with Meniere's, positonal vertigo, and what he describes as "crickets" in his ears.
Your doctor is taking the exact same steps that Jack's ear, nose and throat specialist took with the not so pleasant tests that you have already had and now with the MRI. Sometimes, but rarely, small tumors can develop behind the ears causing the symptoms. Jack had the MRI also.
I remember the water pill name that Jack was put on.. It was called Dyazide. That really helped him with the vertigo. Jack has 60% hearing loss in his left ear and 50% in his right. He was fitted with a hearing aid for his left ear and is due to have one fitted for the right soon. As far as him describing the "crickets" sound he hears all of time, supposedly the hearing aid will minimize that, but the tinnitis will never completely go away. Very common for people to have a popping, crackling sound, etc.,
when dealing with an inner ear disease.
Hoping to hear positive news after your MRI.
Easier said than done, but keep that chin up Maggie.. There are very helpful treatments.
Love
Dee~~~
