Until I found a decent gastro doc I was frustrated to no end. However, this guy who doesn't believe in useless or unnecessary colonoscopies put it all in perspective on the first visit...
He said all medicine is really only "best guesses based on statistics"! The better the odds the more likely the "guess" will be accurate. PLUS you have to keep in mind that there are exceptions even when the odds are high in that a diagnosis "should be" correct.
He said that most doctors won't tell you they don't know or accurately explain that medicine really IS only "best guesses". He said the doctor has to listen to the patient and the patient has to listen to their own body.
If something you are doing isn't working... duh.. stop doing it..LOL I tried Asacol twice and it made me very ill both times.. did he suggest I try it a third time??? NO! Would I have wanted to try it a third time? Of course not..LOL
Although we don't all take the same route to getting our life back we really have to listen to our own bodies and do what works for us. Sometimes science just can't provide the definitive answers we would like to hear.. but our bodies usually guide us the right direction ... IF we pay attention:)
My family doctor was very supportive of the gluten free diet early on in 2002.. and it worked ...sort of ...for awhile. The gastro doc I see now offered the entocort a year before I agreed to take it ...after I was fed up enough with diapers to be willing to try it.
If we keep in mind that medicine really is only "best guesses".. it takes a little of the frustration out of the equation until we find a doctor we can deal with.

Hi Grannyh,
Thank you for an excellent post. It's great to see that at least one doctor in the world will admit what we have all been pretty sure of all along. LOL. It's a shame we can't all find a doctor like that.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Granny---great article----
Perhaps U might have read some posts where I- quote *luve my GP*
He *LISTENS* and doesnt look @ me like I am a loony toons character--
He gets to KNOW his patients----and I trust him with every inch of my body--
I just spoke with him---in reference to my *back* and what the orthopedic suggested I have done--with the verterbre--to further keep the spine *holding* good and without hesitation he *agreed*---
Granny, when my GI started me on Entocort-1-3x's a day (leading me into big issues--my GP was so furious---His words were---U dont start someone on that dosage until U see how they do on a smaller dosage and then work up--sadly Entocot was NOT for me----
Yup---thats my GP---I luve this guy---

My GP knows nothing about Entocort and would not prescribe it for me at all. After two years, and during a time it was inconvenient for me to get all the way into Houston to see the gastro doc.. my family doc FINALLY prescribed it for me. He was amazed at what it has done for me.. I just had to promise to see the gastro guy by the end of the year.
Entocort is not for everyone.. nothing is for everyone with these MC diseases. When asacol failed the gastro guy said that in his opinion the entocort was safer than the next drugs in his arsenal:) The next ones are used to treat some forms of cancer (I can't remember the names tho).
Glad you have both a great gastro guy and GP. I check everything out with my GP as well.. I think my GP is the greatest thing since sliced bread..LOL His daughter is a dentist and we see her and sometimes we see the GP's son who is a doctor too. We are lucky to have a whole family of trustworthy medical providers close by.
This site is fantastic for all of us who muddle through the mysteries of MC.. we are not alone.. there is always hope there is SOMETHING we can try to get our life back.
Sure hope you get some relief with your brace..whoever fitted it should surely be able to make it more comfortable.
