Could you guys spare some good thoughts/prayers for a friend

Post by CAMary »

I met this lovely woman on a breast cancer support board...she and I connected immediately. We have the same diagnosis, both have 3 kids, and she had her mastectomy scheduled the same day I had my exchange surgery - total coincidence! We email each other frequently.

Well, she got a post-op skin staph infection while in the hospital in Sept. They gave her Clindamysin - and it cleared up - BUT....she ended up with a nasty case of c-diff! When she told me, she couldn't believe I'd had it too - it is almost freaky how much we have in common! In any case, she did 2 rounds of Flagyl, then moved on to pulse-dosing Vancomycin. She just finished up and is keeping fingers crossed she has beaten this beast for good!

The sad part is the rest of her reconstruction is "on hold" until the c-diff is gone. She *should* have been able to get rid of her expanders (which are uncomfortable!) in December - but has to be cleared by her primary, first. Please pray that she can move forward soon. It is frustrating and depressing to be "held hostage by this darn bacteria" (her words!). She's such a nice lady - and only 37 years old!

Thanks!

Mary

You bet! Good thoughts and prayers are on the way. Let's hope that she has the right genes, so that the C diff and associated treatment don't trigger MC, on top of it all.
