Our new babies

Post by Liz »

I have not owned a cat for over 50 years but we now find ourselves the owner of two, a mother cat & her 10 week old kitten. Or perhaps they own us, not quite sure. The mother cat, Swartzie lived next door & was not very well cared for by her owners. She was taken advantage of & became pregnant to a very handsome grey & white tomcat when she was still very young. As a result she gave birth to five kittens. We took Charly into our home at six weeks old but a week or so later the neighbours were evicted & they could not take Swartzie with them. She knew we were very fond of Swartzie & asked if we wanted to take her to live with us. Well we had to think about it for perhaps a second & a half & then agreed. She had her operation last Thursday so will not be producing any more babies. Charly will go for hers when she is six months old.

They are so much fun & it is great to watch them play together.

Swartzie is named after a black dog that Judith used to own who used to always be underfoot. Swartzie was like that too from the time she was a kitten so we nicknamed her that. We said he had come back as a cat. Now it is her real name.

Charly is a real character & very spoilt. She has managed to climb right up inside our lounge chairs where she hides from her mother & us. Cheeky little thing.

Wow! 50 years between cats is a long time. The only time in my life that I've been without the company of cats is while I was in college. LOL.

It's God's wink alright Aunty Barb. There are sooo many coincidences in our lives.

Charly is very naughty & stirs her mother up when she is supposed to be resting after her operation but Swartzie does not seem to mind, in fact she encourages her. Charly hides in the most unlikely places. She went missing for four hours the other day & we thought that she had somehow gotten outside. After Swartzie, Robert, myself & my neighbour Georgie frantically searching for her I tried a spot that I thought I had searched before & put my hand in behind a record container & felt this furry ball. She was still sleeping & protested at being woken up. Now I don't worry if I don't see her for a while. She will be holed up in some almost unaccessible spot for a nap.

Lotsa Love

Junior
