For my Sinus and Ear Challenged Friends

Post by kate_ce1995 »

Well, I learned this little tip from my shrink. He said no ENT will tell you this.

But if you use your thumb and index finger and pinch your nose on the soft part without blocking your nostrils and hold it for 30 to 60 seconds, it will reduce your stuffiness. He says the sinuses and genitals are the only two parts of the body that will engorge and this is a reflex thing that reduces the engorging of the sinuses.

He also said, that the middle something or other in the sinuses (sorry, I forgot the term) lies over the Eustachian tube so if that is inflamed, the ear will not drain as well.

And by gosh it works! I was playing around with this on my drive home last night and all of a sudden my ear, which has been problematic for months despite taking Claritin, started to pop and drain and such. It's not cured yet, but maybe I can get things back to a nice state of equalibrium.

Katy,

Thanks for this information and it is interesting. Just sat here with my husband and told him to try this when he is having sinus problems.

Thanks!
Kel

Katy,
How do you pinch the soft part of your nose without blocking the nostrils? Just pinch the tip?
