New gluten intolerance symptom?

I was talking to the chef at work today. He is gluten intolerance. He pretty much figured it out on his own. He said he's had stomach problems as long as he can remember. He has a family full of AI diseases, but they refuse to consider going GF.

Anyway, his biggest symptom was a constant soar throat for over seven years. He was put on every antibiotic available, and it never cleared up until three weeks after he went GF. If he does eat gluten, he gets stuffed up and achy.

I don't think I've heard this symptom before. Jean

Hi Jean I hadn't heard of that symtom either...but I am sure there are alot of symtoms out there we just haven't un-covered as yet. I have had sore throats for no reason...but never thought it could be related....it just amazes me sometimes. Love Oma

I wonder if sore throats are a symptom with any other AI diseases?
Had you thought about checking that out, Mz. Research Person? Ha!

Wow, will having a gf chef help you to get something to eat at that place?

Interesting. I do, I think, get a little stuffier. Either that or I just react more to my other allergies, which aren't bad enough to do anything about, but I know when the seasons change, the pollens are out, or its time to wash the bedding to get the cat fur off

. If he is more sensitive to stuff allergy wise, it would not suprise me at all.

Interesting information. Isn't it cool to meet people who have intolerances - sometimes I feel like I am the only person in the world (besides you guys and my mom of course). My husband met a man in our shop who he invited to go out for business lunch - the man thanked him but said he never goes out to eat. My husband inquired about the reasons and the man told him he was intolerant of all kinds of foods so he had to prepare his own meals in order to prevent getting sick. Sounds a lot like me!!

I hope this chef will be able to prepare some meals for you, Jean.

I have recently made friends with a woman who came into my store with her daughter. It turns out that she has Crohns disease. I don't know her very well yet so I have not asked a lot of questions but I know she is scheduled for some kind of surgery very soon. She hadn't heard about the SCD diet. I don't think she has any clue that she could possibly get better by making some dietary changes. I am afraid of being pushy so I haven't said anything except that I control my symptoms with diet. Unfortunately, I don't know anything much about Crohns and how it responds to diet. Does any of you know anything about that?

Hi...

It is helpful to see I am not the only one suffering from "strange" symtoms apart from the normal ones of the LC.

I´ll explain...
Around a year ago, I started having white and swollen gums... The dentist was sure it had nothing to do with the teeth or gums itself, but more with the mouth ulcers and insisted it was something from inside (stomach or intestinal)... It was painful... Then I started having sore throats which finished being pharyinghitis and larynghitis. Even swallowing was painful... After this, I could not speak for more than 2 days...

Doctors were unable to determine the reason for this (that time, we did not know I had LC) and said it could be a virus, I got a cold, etc. They told me to try with this and that medicine... one after the other, or at the same time: antibiotics and all kind of stuff...
Headaches and abdominal pain were also present... 24 hours a day... during more than 1 month...
2 months later, I had vomits and severe abdominal pain and ended in Hospital...

These symtoms did not relief until I felt less abdominal pain... Therefore, I am sure that this HAS to do with LC...
I would say that the inmune system is able to react in many (unknown) different ways... Don´t you think so?

Karen, Crohn Disease is a Inflammatory Disease (I would say "similar" to MC) but instead of detecting it with a microscope it is visual as they have ulcers in their intestine...etc.

I am starting to think that gluten possibly is the main cause of more inmune diseases than we can imagine... Have your read Dr. Fine´s article "When the villi are gone?" I would recommend to read it... http://www.enterolab.com/Essay/

People with Crohn Disease are told to do a special diet (taking away from their diet whatever makes them feel ill)...

I always thought that sore throats or mouth problems pointed towards an alergy rather than an intollerance, but I'm new to this stuff so I may have misread.
