Diabetes?
Well we went to the vet today and got all of Buck and Jasmines boosters today...and of course he checked their weight and everything. Said thier teeth were really great (they get a beef rib bone uncooked,a couple times a month and he thinks that is why thier teeth are good ) and then we discussed her drinking so much and her pee problem.....we were unable to get a urine sample today but he believes she is most likely diabetic. Right now she isn't exhibiting any problems...but we are in the process of getting the urine and setting up a fasting blood draw. Jasmine is only a year old........I havent told husband yet...he's out of town...I guess if he calls me tonight I will tell him. Buck is just fine weighs 17 lbs and a very healthy boy. I feel so bad that Jasmine is Diabetic.....I am a bit depressed over it. On a funnier note...you should have seen the guy helping the vet trying to get urine from Jasmine...he cut a styrofoam cup down and took her out to pee....he tried to catch her as she was peeing and she would have none of it. I have to try and get a sample.....lol ha ha...like I am an expert at it. ANyway I guess I will put Jamine in the prayer tonight too. Love Oma

Oma, you can worry all you want about your babies! On a lighter note, what better mommy than you if he needs extra meds or a different diet! Lucky doggie!
PS - good luck pee-catching! What a hoot!
BTW - the preparation H DID help - THANKS! Who would've thought!

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful." -- Buddha

You're right Hubby and I talked and decided that we will get her what ever meds she needs and like the vet said quality of lif not quantity. So we will talk again about her future when her quality of loife isn't good. But for now she and Buck get their vitamins and every day and life will proceed as usual. They are a bit under the weather tonight. They are eating and drinking but not as active due to the amount of booster they received, plus they are sore...I checked their Gums, that's where you can lok when they are sick or hurt and tell alot about theor condition. As Long as theor gums are nice and Pink they are fine. Thanks for the support....I feel helpless for her. Love Oma

Hi there OTHL!
I'm sorry to hear about Jasmine. I have known people whose pets had diabetes and they did very well. Will she need insulin injections? If so, then I guess she has an autoimmune disease. My golden retriever developed an autoimmune disease called primary hypoparathyroidism. I tried to search the net for the cause but didn't come up with much. My suspicion is that it may have been a reaction to an immunization. Apparently there have been lots of problems with immunizations and that is why vets recently are cutting down a lot on the frequency of shots that they recommend. I am especially wondering about the Lyme vaccine.
I know how upset you must be - I was a basket case when Rusty suddenly had a seizure as the first sign of his low calcium level from the hypoparathyroidism.
Love,
Polly

Polly...I am a bit devestated about it....she's such a sweet little dog....she will need some type of meds...the vet needed either a fasting blood test or urin sample to see if he could see it in her urin and if he could she really has a problem with it. She does anyway due to the amt and frequency she drinks and pees. My vet only vacinates (boosters) every two years. He's a good ol' country vet. He loves the animals and spent an hour with me and even held off on a spay he was doing til I understood about her desease. Hubby and I will take good care of both dogs and just treat her as we always have. She has had a rough time with the shots this time and I suspect it has to do with the diabetes. Love Oma
