Great News For Donut Lovers . . .

Post by tex »

The Kinnikinnick Vanilla Dipped Donuts are now soy-free! They've always been gluten-free, and dairy-free, and now they're soy-free as well. Their donuts are without doubt some of the best gluten-free donuts on the market - they're certainly the best I've ever found, anyway. :thumbsup:

They changed their packaging, also. I didn't see them in their usual place, so when I checked out at the health food store, I asked if they were out of them, or if I had just overlooked them. It turns out they had moved them to a different location in the frozen food display, and they are now packaged in a box, rather than a plastic bag.

Anyway, good for them, for upgrading their products by taking out unnecessary junk, so that more of us can enjoy them. :thumbsup:

Well, I bought a package of the Chocolate Glazed donuts early last spring, one day when they were out of the Vanilla Dipped donuts. I didn't think that I would like them, because I don't much care for chocolate cake, and I was right. They were way too chocolatety, (as if that's a word), to suit me. I see that I still have the package, (minus one donut), in my freezer, so you can see that I'm not a very big fan of chocolate. Now chocolate candy is just fine, and GF chocolate chip cookies are not too bad, (except that they always seem to make me sick, for some reason or other), but no chocolate cake, donuts, ice cream, pie, or anything else with chocolate, for me, thank you.

I noticed that they did have the chocolate donuts today, in the new packaging, (a box), so I'm guessing that they are also gluten-free, diary-free, and soy-free, since the older version had basically the same ingredients as the Vanilla Dipped ones, except for the addition of the cocoa powder. If you like chocolate donuts, you'll probably love them, but they're a little too rich on the chocolate, to suit me.

A while back, I bought a package of the Chocolate Glazed donuts to try them, but they are made with eggs. :sad: I was hoping I'd get away with eating just one, but no luck. I get so tired of eating either buckwheat or rice cereal every morning. I'll sometimes eat a waffle, pancake, or even potatoes O'Brien, but I really crave eggs.

I recently purchased a donut pan which will allow me to put batter into the forms and bake donuts using an egg-free batter. I'm hoping that will give me a little more variety.

I also bought a jelly roll pan and am using it to make my own hamburger buns. I take the bun to Arby's and they put the beef in it for me.

DH just at a couple of the Chocolate glazed doughnuts this morning because I haven't touched them. I asked him how they tasted and he said "OK," meaning they weren't like Dunkin' Donuts. It just goes to show how much we've adapted to this diet.

I finally made some doughnuts with my doughnut pan a couple of months ago. They were they sure were tiny and dense, but a welcome change from cereal. I might try to make some yeast-raised ones and see how they turn out.

Gloria,

I just checked the label on the vanilla-dipped donuts, and sure enough, they contain egg whites, too.

I have a hunch that if your hubby tried those, he would give them a much higher rating than "OK". To my taste buds, the chocolate version donuts are barely tolerable, but the vanilla-dipped donuts are excellent.

Hi all;

I am a "choco-holic" - big time!!! I really loved the Kinnikinnick chocolate donuts that are chocolate dipped. I tried their regular donuts that are chocolate dipped and they were "OK". guess you can tell what kind of chocolate person I am!!

Gloria - I also bought a donut pan, but haven't used it yet. I keep thinking I will, but just haven't gotten it done yet. My package actually came with a "mini" size pan as well as a "regular" size pan, but the "regular" size pan sure looks small to me. Guess I'll try those first and just call them the "mini" :lol:

We all have different tastes, don't we. :grin: I guess that's a good thing - it helps to prevent monotony.
