What A Week This Has Been...........
Hi All:
I took Tex's advise and did as little stretching, pulling, shoving etc. as possible while on the Levequin. Thank You for the article and the "heads up".
I have been wondering just how long I've had this UTI and not know it and because of everything else going on nobody not even while I was in the hospital did any ask for a urine sample.
The reason I'm bringing this up is since I've been taking the Levequin for the UTI I have NOT had a case of D this week at all. Instead of the antibiotic given me the runs my stool is actually a normal stool. I have NOT had any abdominal or back pain that usually proceeds having a BM.
I have read that sometimes when the Entocort doesn't curb the D that sometimes a patient has to go Prednisone for awhile. Is it possible that the Levequin I've been taking this past week has reacted in the same manner taking Prednisone would have done?Or is it more likely that my abdominal and back pain was more from the UTI than the CC? I have so many questions and at the same time this as been a VERY GOOD week with very little pain except for my Fibromyalgia which is daily any ways.
I have actually been a normal human being this week, I have 1 dosage of Levequin yet to take tomorrow and then I have to have another urine sample sent to the lab.
If anyone has any information or thoughts to share in regards to why such a change would occur would love to hear any and all comments.
Love and God Bless:
Jodi

Hi Barb:
Thank You for your support. Will let everyone know what happens after I'm know longer on the Levequin.
It's just been a very strange week. Being DX's with the UTI and then being put on the antibiotic Levequin. It has been sooooooo long since I've had a normal BM that I was just wondering if being on the Levequin would have been part of the reason why.
I hated the thought of having a daily BM because there always seemed to be cramping sometimes constipation and as you already know the list "goes on". I'm just a little confused on wether or not the UTI was also partly to blame for the problems I continued to have even after being put on Entocort.
My GP was very surprised that with the blood in my urine that I didn't even run a temp with it. Infact my temp was actually sub-normal it was 96.6 instead of a normal 98.6 which I normally run.
It's been a relief but yet has left me with many unanswered questions.

P.S. How are you feeling? Are you doing any better Sweety? It just seems like we all have had just way more than any one person needs to deal with. Oh, FYI I have NOT tried going off the GF foods as I truly feel staying away from those foods has really helped as well as avoiding as much dairy as possible.

Jodi,
Prednisone and Entocort are corticosteroids, and they are used to help control inflammation. Levaquin, (levofloxacin), and Cipro, (ciprofloxacin) are broad-spectrum antibiotics, known as floroquinolones. (Cipro is a second-generation floroquinolone). Corticosteroids and antibiotics are prescribed for entirely different purposes.
We, (the founding members of this board), have known for years that Cipro will bring almost instant remission for most of us, so it's no surprise that Levaquin will have the same effect. No one knows exactly why the floroquinolones bring remission for MC, but part of the reason may be because they destroy many species of gut bacteria, including E. coli. That being the case, you may want to consider taking a good probiotic for a while, when you discontinue taking the antibiotic, (Levaquin). If you were not in remission before you started taking the Levaquin, it's effects probably won't last but a few days after it is discontinued, (IOW, the D will probably resume, again). Sorry for the bad news.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Fibromylgia
Jodi, I don`t have anything to add about the Leviquin but I do know there is a med for Fibro called Lyrica. I don`t have Fibro but I take it for achy joints and finally talked my 83 yr. old aunt into asking her doc about Lyrica. She has been on 100 mg a day for about 8 weeks and says her Fibro has all but disapppeared. Good luck and prayers for you with all your issues. Love, Carol

You're correct as usual, Tex.
Since I've been on Cipro for the past week, I've seen Norman every day and I've been taking only one Entocort every other day. It's tempting to think that I'm finally in remission, but I know that Cipro is helping me along. I'll wait until I've been off the Cipro for a week or so before I decide.
Also, as you recommend, I've been taking a probiotic 2 hours after taking the Cipro. In addition, I'm eating a couple of spoonfuls of rice yogurt througout the day in order to replace my good bacteria.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Whole Foods is the only store in my area that carries it. It's called Ricera and is fairly expensive at $1.49 for 6 oz. It's also not that tasty, but at least it has the probiotics. Here's their website: http://www.ricerafoods.com/find_ricera.html
Although I've made dairy yogurt in the past, I've tried making my own rice yogurt without success. I've read that it's possible to make yogurt out of coconut milk, but I haven't tried it.
