thrust
I believe I have thrust from still taking the prednisone. Is there anything I can do to help get rid of it. Or do I need something from the dr too?

Hi Tami,
I assume that you are referring to "thrush," which is yeast, (candida albicans), growing on the tongue, or other places in the mouth. That probably means that your immune system is suppressed, and that's one of the risks that goes along with taking a med that suppresses the immune system. If your immune system is severely suppressed, it's possible for the yeast to spread throughout your entire digestive system, (though your GI doc will probably deny that) - hopefully that hasn't happened, though. As Barbara mentioned, you will need to get a prescription from your doc to control it.
It has to be done correctly, because the improper use of antibiotics can cause more yeast to grow, and spread further. If it is only in your mouth, or at least has spread no further than your esophagus, then the antibiotic will probably control it, but if it has spread throughout your digestive system, then in addition to the antibiotic, you will have to starve the yeast by eliminating virtually all sugar, (carbs), from your diet, for several months.
By all means, tell your doc that you have it. It is not easy to get rid of a yeast overgrowth problem if it has spread throughout your digestive system.

Tami,
I doubt they will help, but who knows? They certainly shouldn't hurt anything, and there's always a chance that they might help.
Sure, it's probably a good idea to ask your regular doctor about the thrush. She might know more about it than your GI doc.

I believe I've seen it at health food stores, and I'll bet that most pharmacies carry it, but I've never really looked for it there.

Yes, I think it's definitely a good idea to go ahead and use it, especially if you are still taking Prednisone, just in case it might be trying to become established farther down your GI tract.
