Weekend Update

Post by Babsey »

:band:

My 13 year-old daughter went on her very first trip with the Field Band to the Boston area. They got first place in both of the competitions that they were in. I had originally planned, months ago, on being able to go with her as a chaperone, but then the MC came and I didn't feel comfortable and probably would have been miserable the whole time while also being in a panic while frantically looking for the closest bathroom everywhere we went. (huge run-on sentence there) Their itinerary was jammed full and they all had a great time and although I was feeling guilty for not being there, I had a great weekend with the hubby! I caught up on all of the posts this morning but didn't have a chance to respond, so just know that I'm thinking of all of you.

Congratulations on raising a talented daughter. I have a soft spot for things like that, because I did the band thing myself, when I was in school, and I've always considered it to be one of the best things that I have ever done. The benefits derived almost always greatly exceed the time investment, and music can pay dividends in ways that we never dream of, later in life. Music training does something to the brain that allows it to learn in ways that are otherwise rarely exploited.

Not to mention stress relief, the opportunity to travel such as trips like your daughter just went on (I've been to Canadian cities on tour that I'd never have dreamed of going to, and I've been to France, Italy, Hawaii, and Nashville with bands I've played in).

But you are right about the MC...bus travel, and stadium bathrooms (or portapots depending on the location of the event). That wouldn't have been fun. I'm sure your daughter understood.

That's very nice news about your daughter and her band.
