PF Changs
I know I have read for a long time that PF Changs has a gluten free menu but i finally went yesterday. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. The did have quite a few choices but that isn't what pleased me the most. At one point the manager came out to our table and apologized that our food was taking so long but that it was because of the gluten free. They had to get a brand new ok and pull out all of the meat and everything fresh from the back so it takes a little longer. It has never taken longer to get my food at any other restaurant. I really appreciated they took the extra steps to make certain there was no cross contamination. They even brought me a small bowl of gluten free soy sauce and made sure to inform me about anything that could have gluten. The food was excellent. If you have one near you I would check it out.

I eat there every time I go to the "city." They dont have them in Flagstaff, but las vegas, phoenix, tuscon, etc all have them and I make a point to get to one of the restaurants even if it means driving 30 mins out of my way!!
Spicy Changs Chicken, Chicken lettuce wraps, singapore street noodles and Lemon Chicken are my favorites... tthey also have scallops, salmon, beef etc dishes...
I give it 3 thumbs up out of two!!!!

I just ate there last Thursday. I always order the Phillips Lemon Chicken and have never had a problem with it. Would love to eat other items, but they either have soy or eggs in them. The flourless chocolate cake sounds delicious, but alas, it also contains eggs.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Pei Wei's is a related restaurant, but no table service. They have a gluten free menu as well, but it's a bit harder to get any vegetables there due to what's used in the vegetable cooker that would have gluten in it. Think this is just because the size of the kitchen is so much less.
The s&s chicken, shrimp or port has a little green pepper, onion, and pineapple, and red pepper pieces, and the spicey chicken has snap peas as well as the warm peppers. By the way, you can tone it down if you want mild, but make sure they don't take all of that flavor out of either dish.
The three of these on our side of town have lots of carry out business as did the one near where we stayed during the evacuation to Ft. Worth recently, and the sit-down business is jumping most of the time as well.
My mother is deaf, and used to think it was pronounced like "Pee Wee's" so we fondly call it that now. It's supposed to be like "Pay Way."
Chang's needs to move a tiny bit closer to me, but the one in SugarLand has a long wait on Sundays. That's about the only one that I go to, although I've been to at least one other not to far from here.
Glad you found this place! It's also good for my sister and I because of our other allergens being so easily avoidable at these places. We can't have soy, however, and the lettuce wrap things at Pei Wei's, I believe have those bean things, but the chicken lettuce appetizers at Chang's don't, I don't think. We have to be careful because at one time, we only knew we had the gluten issue to deal with when we started eating there. I think that's still on the ok list, however, but always check if you find any more allergens, like soy. lucy

Lucy,
It's always nice to see you posting. I think about you often, though you probably don't know me. I didn't have the hands-on care for my mother like you do, but I did oversee her care for 18 years. It's truly a labor of love, but it's never easy. You must be a very patient woman.
I've been waiting to see if you would respond to this P.F. Chang's thread. I seem to remember that you were concerned about them using egg whites as a coating on the chicken. I finally asked the waiter about the coating on my last visit, because the chicken is shiny. He said he was pretty certain that the coating was from cornstarch. I wanted him to check with the chef, but he seemed to feel he was correct.
At any rate, I've never had a problem eating the Philip's Lemon Chicken, though everything else is off-limits for me. Are there any other main dishes on the GF menu that you can eat? Our intolerances are very similar. I can't have any legumes, and I've removed yeast from my restricted list.

does the GLUTEN FREE changs spicy chicken have soy and eggs? I dont think they do- the gluten free kind comes WITHOUT the gluten free soy sauce (they want to make the gluten free and non gluten free dishes look different). Might be worth asking.Gloria wrote:I just ate there last Thursday. I always order the Phillips Lemon Chicken and have never had a problem with it.
