My Daughter's battle
I am sorry it seems like I only post when I have a problem. This is the only place I feel I get support, comfort and love & no judgement.
I don't even know where to start. Some of you know and have met my beautiful, adorable daughter Ashlee. We took her to a drug rehab treatment center last Sunday. She attempted suicide, ended up in the ER and spent a week in behavioral health at the hospital in detox. She is addicted to opiates, specifically pain meds, morphine, vicoden etc. She has temporarily lost custody of her daughter. Kylee is with her Dad and doing well. She is too little to grasp what is going on, she just knows that her Mommy is sick and she misses her.
We knew there was a problem because her life has been out of control for awhile but didn't have a grasp on what was going on or the extent.. Plus no proof.......she was very good at hiding her addiction. It is really hard to see your child suffer. She has a lot of people who love and support her. We had several family members pitch in to cover the cost of the treatment center. She was ready to get help so I think that will be a huge deal in her being successful.
As hard as things are right now this really is a positive situation. She stopped living a lie, came clean about her use, wanted help and wants to get better. We aren't able to have contact yet but we got a letter from her today. She was upbeat, eager to share what she has learned, going to all the classes and taking control.
Thanks for letting me talk about this. It always feels better to get it off your chest. I was having anxiety attacks, I went to my acupuncturist on Tues and feel 100% today. My regular doc just wanted to give me xanax (sp?) & switch my anti-depressants. Why do they just push pills at you, UGH! No wonder there is a problem with prescription drug addiction.
Hugs!
Lori

Oh Lori,
I'm so sorry to hear that happened, but I definitely agree with you that the outcome was positive, in that it initiated a necessary turnaround in her life. You're right, of course - the fact that she wants to get better is surely the most important ingredient for success with the program.
My best wishes go out to her, to you, and to all of your family. It's always good to see a post from you, regardless of the reason. Please keep us informed.
Hugs,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Ashlee, I had the same problem with one of my girls, Luckily she had no kids at the time, she was in high school at the time. She also attempted sucide at a hight school dance. She had 12 drugs in her system. I know it doesn't seem fair and like there is no light to see at the end of the tunnel, but going into rehab is probally the best thing for her at this time. One of the things I was told when My daughter tried to kill herself was that she had to reach that point before she could even attempt to accept help. I am sorry you and the Kylee have to go thru this, our hearts still get injured no matter what age our kid s are, and how we hurt for our grand babies. Ashlee and all of you are in my prayers. If you want to talk Pm me on our site I will give you a number to reach me on. Take care, remember this is not your fault, it's no ones, it happens. Love and hugs Oma and heres a smilefor you,
May I be more compassionate and loving than yeterday*and be able to spot the idiots in advance
Lori, so sorry about this turn of events. Many people overcome these addictions and I hope hope hope Ashlee will be one of them. She has so many reasons to live. It will take a lot of strength on her part and the support of you and family will help so much, but of course she has to do it herself. I hope all our good wishes will help a little, too!

Hi Lori,
As you know, I had the privilege of spending some one-on-one time with your daughter Ashlee several years ago when Sally hosted a Potty People mtg. in Oregon. Ashlee is most definitely an exceptionally beautiful, bright, and caring young lady. We seemed to bond almost immediately, and she spontaneously shared some of her concerns with me at that time.
After spending quality time with her, I have no doubt that she can overcome her addictions. As we know, addictions are NOT a moral issue i.e. IOW, you did nothing wrong in raising her........rather, they are related to genes and brain chemistry. I come from a family with major addictive genes. My dad and brother were alcoholics (and managed to overcome the disease) and I was an addicted smoker for many years. I have always limited my alcohol intake and refused to try any drugs (not even once) because I know that because of my genes I would easily become addicted.
Ashlee has now taken the most difficult and important step by admitting to the problem and agreeing to treatment. Personally she has so many assets. And she has a loving and wonderfully supportive family. All of this points to success over the long term. Often the road is rocky - two steps forward and one back, but I have no doubt that she will make it, given all that she has going for her.
Please give her my very best wishes. If she would like to hear from me, send me her address by PM. I have thought of her often and with great fondness.
Lots of love,
Polly
P.S. Are you able to see Kylee regularly? How far away does dad live?

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Lori,
My heart goes out to you your family, Ashlee & Kylee.
We have an alcoholic son who just hasn't reached the bottom, I guess, to seek help.
We have spent $1,000's for him and treatment.
At times I have wanted to just stop fighting and give up "Hope" to save him from self destruction, but I can't seem to do that.
Like you stated, it is excruciating to see your child suffering and at times when they get to the point that they see no purpose in living.
I have to really fight within myslef to not let myself live in fear everday.
I pray that Ashlee does well with her rehabilation and and can get clean and stay clean.
Love
