Did anyone watch Grey's Anatomy Thursday?

Post by Becky »

o.k., I'm a little embarrassed to say I did. It's not the most wholesome show. Anyway, there was a patient with C-diff. They treated her by giving her a "poo-transplant" to reintroduce healthy bacteria.
Anyone heard of anything like that for real????

Hi Becky,

Believe it or not, that's a legitimate treatment. Read the last post, (by Polly), on the first page of this thread, and the posts on the second page:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

C-diff

Post by jenilake »

Yes, Kathy P Here

I have had c-diff, I think it was caused by my taking an antibiotic. I was on a c-diff board for a few years. I saw a Naturopathic DR for 3 years. This procedure was in it's infantacy at that time.

It is very well used when nothing else helps. I also saw the show, and I was surprised that they even knew about it.

It is a life saving procedure for ones that have no other hope. Don't discount it if you haven't read up on it.
By the way, Grey's Anatomy, it a very good show, and very accurate.

Thanks Tex - I found it very interesting.

Kathy - I wasn't discounting it, just hadn't heard of it. I was surprised they did C-diff too and was just curious if that was a viable option. I in no way meant to come across negatively.

Hi Becky,

I didn't mean for it to come accross as negative, except that I think that show is very real in what they have as toppics. Like I said, I have had c-diff, and it is a horrible thing to have.

This procedure is a very real option for people. I couldn't believe they even knew about it.

I don't understand why you think the show is not wholesome. It shows things that really happen.

Hi Kathy,
I love the medical aspect of the show, that's why I watch it sometimes. I just don't care for the bed hopping. Guess I'm old fashioned.

Hi Becky,

I don't even pay attention to that part of it, I have Tevo, I go right past it. I agree it would be a better show if they would take that part down a few notches. We would have more of the medical stuff to watch.

After I posted before, I thought about it, and I figured that must be what you meant. I really do just go right past it.

Another good medical show is "HOUSE" Without as much sex stuff.

They do tend to pick medical scenarios that make people go  - anyone remember the "penis fish" episode?!

I watch it when I can - I DVRed last week's epi - I'll have to watch it! I had c-diff too, and heard about this option as a last resort type of thing. Interesting...
