Trip to Whole Foods Today

Post by Polly »

It is always such fun to check out new products. Today I found out that Whole Foods is now doing its own GF baking in a GF dedicated facility. That must mean that the gluten problem is on the increase, wouldn't you think? Their GF breads and pies were not suitable for an MI like me (contained milk and yeast, etc.), but I did find a little loaf of Whole Foods GF carrot cake that had none of my triggers. HALLELUJAH! Sweet treats are the hardest for me to find. Can't wait to pig out!!! :banana2:

Katy, I also bought a waffle iron and can't wait to try the Namaste waffle mix that you gave a thumbs up to.

Love,

Polly

That is exciting about the baked goods
Last time I went to WF it was lunch hour and I had the kids w/me - no time to peruse the bakery and the store was very crowded...I'll check it out next time - sounds quite promising!

Eggs! Shucks!

Post by Lucy »

Polly,

I've bought a few of their things for my Mom since she doesn't have all the sensitivities like my sis and I do.

Good thing you don't react to eggs as that's the ONLY thing in their carrot cake that's on my no-no list.

Hmm,now I'm wondering how much egg white I'd actually get if I just ate a small piece of carrot cake every rare once in a while? Guess I'll wait on that though.

Seems as though I remember someone telling me that the baker who came up with the idea for the GF baked goods is himself a celiac. If not, then it's someone in his family, but I really think it is he.

Sure did come out with lots of products all of a sudden, that's for sure! Wonder how well these these things freeze and thaw?
Have kind of quit getting these for Mom as she always asks for the GF cookies. By the time the cookies are gone, the GF Baked goods are too old, so can't keep doing THAT!

Enjoy! Yours, Luce

Morning Polly,

When our friends from Virginia visited in May, they brought me some of the cookies and muffins and they were very good. Pie sounds just yummy.

Love, Maggie

Polly, carrot cake by WF

Was this made by them in their bakery or is it a Glutino product? I was wondering because I cannot have the milk, eggs or yeast in those baked goods either.

I want some wahhhhhh!

I am convinced that gluten is the culprit for many

The market is in demand for foods that persons with compromised immune systems can digest and enjoy. I did find that those baked goods are rather pricey, BUT the servings looked larger than normal which is a plus.

I would love to taste the mollasses cookies from Glutino but cannot tolerate the eggs they contain but I always look at them while visiting Whole Foods~ wahhhh again sighs galore

Mary Jo,

The only silver lining involved with my intolerances is that I CAN eat eggs. I feel so lucky. They are a mainstay of my diet. I think the bakery is a WF bakery.

All,

The carrot cake was DELICIOUS! It was quite moist - unusual for GF cake as you know. It has a lot of fat, though - in the form of canola oil. One small slice has 13 gms of fat! But I'm not complaining. It's great just to have something. I cut the cake up and made individual portions in baggies and froze them. Luce, I have had good luck freezing GF baked goods.

Love,

Polly

Figures when I no longer have a WF's near me  . Do enjoy it though. That sounds wonderful. I wonder how long it will be before they infiltrate Vermont...there may be some up in the Burlington area but thats a good 2 hours from me. I do go up for work from time to time though so if I get a chance, I'll stop on the way home.

I am envious of ya all who can eat eggs!

I sure do miss them and they do so much for leavening in the baking department. Eggs with rice bread sounds great to me.
I had my annual physical and lost so much weight just from not having my chocolate, cookies etc... Dr. Gally said my cholesterol went down 26 points within a year too. I was not really heavy but wear a size 6/8 in everything now. I was a size 10. I think he is impressed because I played "physician" and had Dr. Fine test me in 2003. I really believe that this is only helping enterolab prove itself here in the continental US. Gluten sensitivity is so overlooked if celiac is found to be a negative.

Do you think people overcome their intolerances at all? I would love to think so?

Hey, Dennis is getting closer and even though we in Broward will be spared its 135 mph winds we will have tropical storm watch because we will receive the bad side of him= north eastern section is always the nasty side (except for the eye of course). Nice right now, but tomorrow may be quite different. They have evacutated all of the keys.

Ok, I'll shut up now. lol
