Good morning Dee,
Thanks for the warm welcome!!!
I would not be in remission now if it were not for you and all the others here; I've been skulking around the website for 3+ months...
I'm still feeling a little hesitant to post but I'm sure I will come around.
Have a Great Day!!!

Thanks, Joan & Dee!!
Dee, I see that you are in Ohio; are you a "Buckeye"? Also, wanted to know if you GI is informative regarding MC; I believe it would be worth the drive. Mine is completely worthless. I'm removing him from my health loop except to get the Entocort.

Yep!! I sure am a "Buckeye" but it's to bad that those Texans outsmarted us in the Bowl game minutes before the final!! LOL!!!
Sadly, I don't have a good GI either. I'm maybe with him in his office 5 minutes and that's to get my prescription refilled. He's always been like, "This is what you have and sends you on your way.
I did get to inform his new, female, nurse practitioner in during my appt. in September and gave her this website & Dr. Fines. She definitely wasn't ahead of my game.....
Where are you located in Ohio??
I'm in North Canton.

Dee,
I'm just north of Columbus.
I had printed out Dr. Fine's website and tried to give it to my GI in the hopes that he would ok the tests; he glanced at it, rolled his eyes (for the 2nd time during this appt) and threw it down. So much for trying!!!

My GI reacted the same way when I tried to show him my results from Dr. Fine's testing.
He wanted no part of it!!!
North of Columbus??
Hmmmmmm!
I would think that there would be some good GI's in the Columbus area.
Let me do some researching for you & I'll see what I come up with.

Do a Google search on the Ohio State Medical Center.
There are links that will provide you with GI doctor's .
You can usually then type in a doctor's name and alot of times you can bring up information about them.

Silly me, I'm hoping that my doc will someday get around to looking at Dr. Fine's web sites. I'm going to work on it very slowly. If her other MC patient responds to a GF diet maybe it will happen.

Is Dr. Fine the originator of the GF diet for MC?

We lived in Columbus (Whitehall) when DH was in grad school at OSU. I graduated from there, too.

Joan,

Good question. Polly probably knows the answer to that one. There was an MC newsletter that dates back to 1995, where some of our members shared information, but I'm not sure if they discovered that the GF diet worked, or if they got that information from Dr. Fine, in 2001. IOW, Judy Malinowski's MC/CC Club newsletter was sharing information about the diet in 2001, but I'm not sure if Dr. Fine was promoting the diet along with the Pepto treatment at that point, or if he added the diet to his plan later.

I'm just a "new kid on the block", in the MC game - I joined Sally's old board on July 5, 2004, as I recall. I had already been on the GF diet for almost two years, at that point, and had achieved remission about six months prior to joining that board. I'm guessing that Dr. Fine discovered gluten-sensitivity early on, during his research, and he originally proposed the GF diet, as part of the Pepto treatment.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks, Tex.

You mean it could take me another year to get to remission?

I hope not. I was a bad patient, because I wasn't very patient. I kept testing myself almost every couple of weeks, with either corn or dairy products, to see if I was over my intolerance to them. Remember, that was before I had ever met anyone in this group, so I didn't really know how to go about it - it was learn-as-you-go, for me. By constantly "challenging" myself, naturally, I never gave the inflammation an opportunity to completely fade away. It finally dawned on me that this approach wasn't working, so I stopped eating everything but meat, potatoes, rice, and a couple of well-cooked veggies, and in a few weeks, I was in Shangri-la.

Morning Joan,

I am sure Tex was not a bad patient on the GF diet. LOL

It could take longer but if you stick with it, you will be successful. It has been a very long road for me but then again, I am multiply intolerant to a good number of foods so it has been harder. Right now, I think that being off of all meds, I might be seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I am so hoping so.

Love, Maggie
