In case of Emergency - Here is What We Will Do

Post by tex »

Since we are only 5 days away from our public debut, I thought maybe we should have an emergency plan in place, just in case everything goes south, and things get totally out of control. I don't anticipate that happening, but it never hurts to have a plan in place, so that everyone knows what to expect, just in case disaster strikes, and we are unable to recover by traditional means.

Minor transgressions, caused by troublemakers, shouldn't create any serious problems. If/when those happen, we will just edit, delete, bar from membership, etc., and move on. Our moderators will easily handle any and all of that. However, if the board should get hacked, and I am unable to restore it, (IOW, if the situation looks serious enough), I will restore the security levels that we now have, and hide the BB again. If the password files are hacked, then I will probably have to set up a new board, and start over, in which case I will need new passwords for everyone, but that shouldn't be a major problem, since I have everyone's e-mail address, and you have mine.

In a worst-case scenario, the board might be down for a day or two, while we rebuild it, but we have all the information and experience that we need, to be able to rebuild it in a hurry, if that should become necessary.

I really expect the transition to go very smoothly, (probably boringly so), but just in case it doesn't, we will handle whatever happens, and this family will always have a place to meet on the internet.

Love,
Wayne

Are you backing up the data on a daily basis so we don't loose it in case we do get hacked? Or some other unforseen disaster.

Thanks,
Mike

Hey there Wayne,

I'm looking forward to going public- it's exciting to have such a great site for us to share with each other and the thought of offering it to new folks excites me even more. Guess I'm pretty "excitable" these days.

The thought of someone purposely wanting to hack this site to do us harm really makes me angry-- I'm guessing that's what your alluding to and do believe there may be a few out there that would love to see that happen. I agree, the moderators are awesome and doing a great job.

Hopefully, like you said, the tranistion will go smooth as pie. Interesting days ahead for us, for sure.

Love you all :pulsinghearts:
