I've never seen this before, (I thought that squirrels eat nuts and berries, etc.), but this one was eating fresh blooms on a hackberry tree yesterday morning. Apparently they like a little "salad", once in a while.

Well, he certainly seem to be enjoying his "salad". He is such a cute little thing too!! Does his fur really have that golden hew or is a play of light. Pa squirrels are just gray and white. HaHa

The lighting was just about ideal, because it was about mid-morning, on a cloudy-bright day, he was on the side of the tree facing the sun, and the sunlight was coming from the right side of the picture, (filtered by the clouds, of course). That combination usually allows for near-maximum color saturation, so he looks about as good as he ever will, but yes, that rusty-gold color is a pretty accurate rendition of the underside of the squirrels around here. I believe it varies by location, though.
