It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hey Guys!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the birthday wishes (and card Barb).
Lets see, 27, doesnt feel much different than 26 but boy do I HURT days after I play baseball. I never used to feel sore from running around until a few years ago when I got back into baseball. We play on Sundays but then I also travel to Phoenix and Las Vegas for weekend tournaments. ehh I guess it is part of getting older. I remember when my cousin turned 27 (when I was 16) and I thought that was old- my how time flies.
I have been feeling very very well as of late (knock on wood) and I am able to tollerate more things as the days and weeks go by. I weight 140+ LBS which is a far cry from the 115 LBS that I weighed when I was the sickest. I can do cooked tomato sauce now (makes pizza better- of course no cheese) and chocolate among other things that I couldnt have before. Raw veggies still give me fits but not as much as before. I can eat about half a salad and still be ok. Man this diet works!! I mentioned it to a few people who dont feel so well at work and in my social life but they dont want to hear anything about changing their diet and that is cool with me... whatever makes them happy. Many dont want to give up beer (redbridge is a gluten free beer along with New Grist and Bards Tale and I have even started to brew my own GF beer). I was big into brewing (before I was of legal age and before this nasty disease) and I am excited to get back into the swing of things.
The two dogs are wonderful and just enjoy life to the fullest. Oakley was very very sick as a puppy and LUCKILY he has come around... its just a shame he missed almost a year due to not feeling well- he was on the brink of letting go when the DR gave him one last thing that might help out-- OH YEAH ITS THE DREADED PRED!! But he is doing awesome now, we even had to scale back his food because we was getting chubby after being a walking skeleton like his Pappa was not too long ago- and we got him a friend/brother as well, Rocco; boy is he a trip. Sometimes I come home and the TV is on and they are both sitting on the couch watching tv. We leave the remote on the couch most of the time so when they get on the couch (like they arent supposed to do) they sometimes turn on the TV ( I guess by accident but no one will know for sure). Tell tale sign that they have been somewhere they shouldnt but it is still funny at the same time.
Gina is also doing well; still working hard and playing even harder of course. She is big into biking with the women out here; she also trains for half marathons, triathalons, and plays indoor soccer. She has also just taken up dancing. Out here in Flagstaff there is a ton to do- swimming, hiking, biking, disc golfing, and just hanging out. I am glad I am able to leave the house w/o worrying anymore. Life is fun and good again and of course I am thankful to all of you who suggested this diet and made this transition so much easier. I dont even want to think about what I would be or not be if I had not stumbled across this site on day. I really dont know where I would be if I kept listening to my DR saying it isnt gluten- it isnt anything you are eating. But you guys SAVED ME and restored my life to "normal" if there even was such a thing. I still have a few bad days here and there but heck I cant complain!
We are leaving to go to Santa Cruz California for a week and then Las Vegas for a week (I have a work conference in Vegas and we are staying at the Caesar's- how cool is that?).
IF anyone is out in the area please feel free to shoot me an email. We can go to Picazzo's pizza that serves gluten free and dairy free pizza. YUMMM!
Take care guys and I will be stopping in from time to time. You faithful ones who never leave this site do a great service to all of us who have microscopic colitis and you guys change so many lives. Be well and take care.

Hey Terps!
I did not post birthday wishes because I hadn't seen you around. And now you are here!
Hope you had a great day and celebrated in style.
Here's a GF cake for you:
Sounds as if you are doing well. HOORAY! I am also able to tolerate tomato sauce and dark chocolate again. Gloria named these types of food "irritants", which I like. They aren't actual intolerances but we react to them while we are still suffering from active MC. When our gut heals, we can eat them again.
Thanks for the update on your family, including dogs. I'm especially happy that Oakley is doing so well.
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Andrew,
So nice to see you post again. It's great to read that you are successfully managing your MC with diet. Those of us who are still struggling need to read about the successes of others. You give us encouragement to keep persevering.
Polly my DQ twin,
I'm thrilled that you are able to eat tomato sauce and dark chocolate again. To be honest, I've always had this cloud of worry hanging over your list of intolerances because I know that we are much too similar in our reactions. So I'm happy for you and for me.
Joan,
You were the first person I thought of when I read that Andrew is able to resume eating chocolate. There is hope for you!
Gloria

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
