Hi Gabes.........

I'm wondering how long it takes for the magnesium oil and a Vit. D to work?

I'm having the day from hell and would like to find a solution quicker solution to topping up my depleted vitamins and trace elements. Up to now I barely coped but yesterday and today have been very bad days that I believe are due to the depleted state I'm in nutritionally on my very limited diet after having a terrible MC flare - 8 weeks of WD and then he elimination diet.

Depends on
a) how deficient in magnesium you were
b) how much elemental magnesium you are getting per day

mild deficiency, you need about 600-800mg elemental magnesium per day for about 8 weeks to correct the deficiency
medium level deficiency at least 800mg elemental magnesium per day for 8-12 weeks
high level deficiency - at least 800mg elemental magnesium per day for 12-16 weeks

in my case, as i was highly deficient, my medical conditions were using alot of magnesium, (and I was taking medications that deplete magnesium) it took me about 4-5 months of over 1000mg elemental magnesium per day to correct the deficiency

Also keep in mind that magnesium is used as part of the clearing toxins etc. If you have had leaky gut for along time and have lots of toxins/heavy metals and have been magnesium deficient for a while, when you start taking magnesium, the body uses it to clear the toxins etc. this will add to the time frame fix the deficiency..

Thanks Gabes.........

I have taken Furosemide for years now so I guess there is a long way to go at this stage.
I'm gate-crashing my partners GP appointment tomorrow to get a referral to a Specialist GI Physician.
I'm hoping he/ she agrees to screen me for different levels of essential nutrients so I know exactly where I'm starting from.

I'm now suffering from chronic low - medium dehydration. It worries me.

Good luck with your appointment,

my experience here in Australia is that only wholistic doctors and nutritionists/naturopaths will delve into essential nutrient testing - even then there is limitations on what they can order and how often.

quite a few of the tests were not covered by the Govt subsidised health system so I had to pay for them...
the other aspect is that there is no 'easy test' that provides the information we need.
ie magnesium blood tests are only about 60% accurate, the only accurate mineral testing is muscle tissue sampling

in my case it was a combo of blood, urine, hair analysis, methylation profile (via saliva DNA) that gave me best available affordable information to know what my imbalances were. and most of these I had to/have to pay for

EG: I have a documented medical condition of Pyrrole (again I paid for that test) and the main thing to be monitored is the Zinc and Copper levels. I have to pay for the test every 4-5 months.

In Australia, they will not test for Vit D3 or B12 etc unless you present with 'chronic deficiency symptoms'. Otherwise it is once a year
I dont want my body to get a chronic deficient state before we start adjusting my intake... it takes longer to recover from that. and from learnings of my journey of the past 6 years, just 3 months of stress (job stress, moving interstate stress and high levels of inflammation) i went from being in the really high level of Vit D, to the level halving and heading towards deficiency...

Even though I have been diagnosed with an IBD (at age 40), I do not qualify for subsidised bone density testing until Age 55 unless i present with chronic symptoms, by then the damage is done and it is too late....

I am trying to be pro-active about my health so I am not a burden on the health system later in life, sadly there is no scope or encouragement for that...

Ancient Minerals versus Life Flo magnesium lotion

Post by Jumpindogs »

Posted this on a different thread but thought it might be useful here too. Gabes, I hope it is OK to post this here. If not please delete.

Just wanted to share what I learned today. Called the Life Flo Nutritional Product Helpline to ask the amount of magnesium in their lotion...it is 330 mg per teaspoon. Ancient Minerals mag lotion has 185 mg magnesium per teaspoon. So at nearly half the cost...at least on Amazon and I can get LF mag lotion for even cheaper at my local health food store so maybe you all can too...and nearly twice the mag, Life Flo seems quite the bargain.

I had purchased both the AM mag lotion and the LF mag lotion at the start of my LC journey in May. Just used up the LF bottle and tried the AM last night. Yuk...my legs still felt sticky in the morning and I couldn't wait to shower that stuff off. The LF absorbs fairly quickly with no sticky residue for me. But that might be an individual thing.

Anyway, hope this info is helpful. Blessings to all!

Hello Christiane,

Welcome to our Internet family. We consider ourselves a family because no one truly understands this disease unless they actually have it. Here, everyone understands.

Yes, foot soaks using Epsom salts, or adding Epsom salts to bathwater definitely helps to increase magnesium reserves in the body. And it's a good way to increase magnesium levels without adding to the risk of diarrhea, which can occur as a result of high oral doses of magnesium.

It sounds as though you're off to a good start with your recovery program.

Hi,

I don't know where to put this chart explaining the reason of several symptoms that lead to "stomach flu", i.e. histamine dumping due to lack of magnesium.

Gabes: You may move it to a place you find more fit.

In line with what Gabes and Theresa posted... here is an up to date news letter from Dr. Carolyn Dean.....

Magnesium Supplementation: Getting Your Ratios Right

This blog could also be called "A Tutorial on How to Achieve the Proper Balance of Magnesium, Calcium, and Vitamin D for optimal health".

When considering this equation it must be understood that all these nutrients work synergistically and require co-factors to be successful in performing their functions in the body. In addition to magnesium, calcium, and vitamin D. Dr. Dean also recommends vitamin K-2 for the metabolism of calcium, ReAline for the absorbable form of vitamin B-6 that works with magnesium, and ReMyte Mineral Solution for the multi-minerals that are require to support vitamin D metabolism as well as inviting potassium and selenium to the party!

Let’s see if we can get this all sorted out. Getting your ratio’s right might look something like this:

Start with whole, complete foods including healthy proteins, lots of fruits, and well-prepared vegetables. Avoid processed foods, sugars, and other unsavory food products that diminish health and vitality.
ReMag - even with a good diet you’ll get less magnesium from your food than you would have thirty years ago because of the demineralization of the soil. This is why is it’s so important to get your ReMag daily. Either follow the protocol by sipping through the day or take it in juice, green tea, or a smoothie with your meals 2 or 3 times a day. If you opt out of the water program, be sure to get your water throughout the day as well.

Calcium is essential for the strength and development of bones and teeth. Few people know that calcium is regulated and controlled by magnesium. Calcium is important for the transmission of impulses in nerve and muscle cells, including cardiac muscle cells. Even so, calcium can’t deliver without the balancing effect of magnesium. Magnesium opens the cells to receive a measured amount of calcium, then, after the muscle or nerve action has been performed, magnesium drives the calcium out of the cell. Calcium also has an important role in blood clotting. But that might mean that the calcification people are experiencing by taking calcium supplements is a cause of the thick blood that so many people have these days, leading to the over-prescription of blood thinning drugs. Our body holds on to calcium much more than magnesium. That may be because human beings grew up near the ocean where seawater contains three times more magnesium than calcium, which meant they had much more magnesium in their diet. Thus we evolved mechanisms that grabbed and stored calcium but released excess magnesium (the laxative effect). Without understanding those processes, it has been suggested that we require more calcium than we do. Dr. Dean recommends a 1:1 balance of calcium to magnesium and takes the calcium RDA from the UK (700mg) and the WHO (500-600mg). Try to get 600mg of calcium in through your diet, which includes yogurt, green leafy vegetables, and bone broth. You can top off your calcium intake with ReMyte Mineral Solution. ReMyte contains 31.25 mgs of calcium in the picometer form. That means it can readily enter into cells as needed. Along with a healthy diet and your ReMyte you’ll have the perfect amount of calcium for your daily living. And, for those who are dairy-free you can get 300 mgs of calcium per serving with ReCalcia, Dr. Dean's picometer calcium solution.

Vitamin D is actually a hormone and is made by the body through summer sun exposure. There’s an app for your iPhone called D minder, that estimates how much vitamin D you make outside depending on where you are, skin type, time of year, time of day, etc. If you can’t get proper exposure to the sun, then Dr. Dean recommends 1,000- 2,000 iu of vitamin D daily. To get the most benefit from vitamin D you have to have the other co-factors in your body as well – those include magnesium, Vitamin K, Zinc, Boron and Vitamin A. Both zinc and boron can be found in ReMyte Mineral Solution – ReMag’s sister mineral product. Vitamin A is readily available in many food sources.

Vitamin K2 is needed to get calcium into the body where it needs to be, in bones and teeth, not arteries, and it protects against vitamin D toxicity. Like magnesium, nearly everyone is deficient, because our eggs and butter and other natural sources are either missing from the diet or come from industrially raised animals not fed on grass. Vitamin K2 supplementation may dramatically reduce fracture rates and even reverses arterial calcification. Dr. Dean recommends getting both vitamin D and K2 from the Blue Ice Royal Capsules from Green Pastures.

Vitamin B-6 - Vitamin B6 (pyridoxal-5-phosphate). As a coenzyme, vitamin B6 assists in an amazing variety of tasks – the creation of heme, the iron-containing component of red blood cells; making the hormone serotonin (the “feel good” hormone); processing carbohydrates for energy; keeping the nervous system working smoothly, and supporting hundreds of other jobs. Having low levels of this key nutrient can lead to skin disorders, depression, dizziness, headaches, and other, more serious problems, such as heart attacks and strokes. Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate, or P5P as it is commonly known, is the active form of vitamin B6 found in Dr. Dean’s product, ReAline. In foods or most supplements, vitamin B6 is found in one of three forms: pyridoxine hydrochloride, pyridoxal, or pyridoxamine. Inside the body, these forms of B6 have to be converted by the liver to the active form the body needs – P5P. Low rates of conversion from the inactive to the active form of vitamin B6 have been reported, especially in people with impaired liver function, Celiac’s disease, older adults, and in children with autism. By consuming vitamin B6 in the active P5P form, conversion is no longer necessary, and the full benefits are available immediately after absorption. Working hand-in-hand with the 100% bio-available ReMag, Vitamin B-6 will boost the performance of your energy production and nervous system to your benefit.

Whew! That’s a lot of great information! Of course, everybody's body is different and so now the opportunity is to apply this information to your own situation. Sometimes you may want to talk to a doctor about how to adjust your nutrient and supplement intake to meet your own special need and that is where our weekly call-in radio show is so darned helpful!

Hope some of this resonates with you all :-)

Thanks Erica...
interesting that it is the 'fundamentals' of what we discuss here.... but the explanations are wider than just how those nutrients work for MC world.
