Budesonide constipation?..
Tex, can I ask you whether you think I'm experiencing Budesonide C?
I started this flare-up 12 days ago, with WD up to 12x/day.
9 days ago I started 9 mg of Budesonide. On subsequent days, WD went from 7x, 12x, 5x, 6x, 6x, 4x, 1x, C and C (today).
In your opinion, is this Budesonide C or MC C?
Should I drop down to 6 mg?
And how do we relieve C? I haven't experienced this in a long time...

Re: Budesonide constipation?..
Sorry that I was so slow with this response, but I've had a busy day, and I'm just now catching up.
That sure looks to me like C associated with budesonide. I'm not a doctor, so I can't give medical advice, but if I were in your situation, I would definitely reduce the budesonide dose to 6 mg per day. If that doesn't help, you might need to try a stool softener, or reduce the dose even further.

Thank you very much. I will do so. I didn't think it would kick in so fast -- after one week. I was prepared for a long and slow weaning process.
Would Omega3 serve as a safe stool softener for us?

Re: Budesonide constipation?..
Taking omega-3 supplements, particularly fish oil, can sometimes cause diarrhea as a side effect, especially if high doses are taken (exceeding 3 grams), but hospitals use a stool softener such as Docusate (Docusate Sodium).
Omega-3s at high doses can act like a laxative (which tends to be harsh on the intestines).
Safer options include:

Safer options include:
- Magnesium citrate (In small to medium doses)
Soluble fiber (like partially hydrolyzed guar gum, psyllium carefully titrated)
Osmotic laxatives like PEG (Miralax)
Careful diet adjustment (hydration, cooked fruits and vegetables)

Thank you so much, Tex.
Re: Budesonide constipation?..
I'm back for further guidance... After dropping from 9 mg of Budesonide to 6 mg 10 days ago, I'm again experiencing mild C and started taking the stool softner again. Is it time to drop to 3 mg? All this time I've been sticking to the strictest diet, eating nothing but fish, turkey, rice, potatoes, and apple sauce; occasionally a banana and some overcooked zucchini and carrots.
Thank you
Thank you
Re: Budesonide constipation?..
Yes, it's time to drop the dose to 3 mg.

Thank you! I will.
